Neofinder reviews4/17/2023 ![]() Darktable is another all in one option and it is free. I have a friend who uses this for his studio. ![]() Media Pro seems good but I am nervous that Phase One has or will kill it.ĪCDSee is a consideration if I want to use them for RAW conversions. I just need a way to catalog my stuff and roundtrip them to C1. But it is an option that I have not ruled out totally but it is my last resort. ![]() I do not like the interface of Lightroom and I like C1's output better. I could get past the subscription BS if the software was terrific. Both from their license model and their interface. You may not want to hear that but you do know that LR Classic CC does do just that - but it is best used with it's own RAW conversion (which isn't too shabby and has become quicker and more user friendly after the latest round of improvements). If cataloging in C1 was not so slow I would be good with that but while it has gotten better, it is still nowhere fast enough to be useful to me. It has disappeared from their list of products. I am working with that right now and it seems promising but I worry that Phase One is killing it off. I had purchased a while back a copy of Media Pro on a deal. My main goal is easy to use, fast and able to handle a large number of files in a catalog. Speed and ease of use is what I am after. It is not a deal breaker if it can't see C1 edits. I don't need a DAM to use the Capture One engine but I would like to see basic edits like B&W and maybe even cropping. But the DAM version of Photo Mechanic (version 6) is promised this year, and given how useful I find Photo Mechanic, I will certainly give it a try.īut, Neofinder is more powerful than it looks, and is worth giving a try. More recently, I have been using Lightroom as a DAM combined with C1 sessions for editing ( Still use Neofinder as its by far the fastest way of finding files). I'm not that concerned about not being able to see the C1 edits (and unless you use Media Pro and sessions I don't think anything shows you the edited C1 raw), as I save all my final images as TIFFs, and the thumbnails and metadata that Neofinder provides allow me to find a specific final images. I also do all my keywording/culling, general organisation etc in Photo Mechanic, but its no use as a DAM. One that I used is creating annual catalogues in C1, and then use Neofinder to make a master catalogue across all years.Īs you can have multiple C1 catalogues open at the same time this worked fairly well and it kept the C1 catalogues down in size. ![]() I also use Neofinder (and Media Pro, for that matter) with C1and have used it in different ways. If you require "However it does not use the Phase One engine to display" then you are out of luck. If search by keywords is that that you want. Have you tried NeoFinder? It's nagware and limited to 10 catalogs until you payup but seems to be fully functional otherwise. However it does not use the Phase One engine to display and the developer is a one man operation so I wonder when he will tire of keeping it current.Īnyone here have an alternative DAM solution for a mac that will work with Capture One?Īny alternatives, other than darktable, for an Aperture like replacement? You can roundtrip to Capture One or any other software easily. The keywording works similar to Media Pro. For me being a hobbyist I want to catalog stuff to find later. I think it is great if you shoot an event and need to pick the best files and send them off quickly. ![]() Photo Mechanic is complicated and not intuitive. Is it dead or just getting ready for a newer version? I guess we wait. However Phase One no longer has this software listed on their main site. Media Pro SE is by Phase One so naturally it makes round trips to Capture One fairly easy and can display using the Phase one engine. Media Pro SE, Photo Mechanic and Photo Supreme along with some other things that were not what I wanted. Well I decided I had to go with a different workflow because I can't stand how slow things are. I have all my images Keyworded so I can find stuff but man when searching or trying to add keywords to several hundred files at once the software slows to a crawl. Once you get the catalog filled with files it really bogs down. I used a managed catalog with Aperture so with C1 I did the same thing. I love the quality of the files which I think is better than Aperture. In the end I did not find anything that was a direct replacement.
